The Coll de Banyuls is an interesting climb due to its location, linking the Empordà with the French border, specifically the town that gives its name to the pass, Banyuls-sur-Mer. The pass is, along with the Perthus and the Portbou pass (coll de Balitres), the only eastern passes in the incipient Pyrenees, as the col d'Ares is located much further west.
