  • Located on the borders of the Ariège and Catalan Pyrenees, the national hunting and wildlife reserve of Orlu extends in the upper part of the Oriège valley, over an area of nearly 4,250 hectares.

Established in 1981, this protected natural area is part of the study and conservation of moutain wildlife, in particular the Isard and the Capercaillie. Five major missions are entrusted to it:

    - Wildlife protection,

    - Scientific Research,

    - Reservoir of animals intended for the reinforcement of external populations,

    - Training of students and schoolchildren and information of the general public,

    - Training of moutain hunters.

The French Office for Biodiversity ensures its management and develops programs for the study and monitorgin of wildlife.

Due to the habitats and endemic species present on the site, the territory of the reserve is included in a perimeter of the Natura 2000 network under the two directives "Habitats" and "Birds".

In the heart of this protected territory, you can hike to the En Beys refuge, observe marmots in the wild or pair the high peaks to hope to see izards, golden eagles or bearded vultures.

A reserve house awaits you on the Orlu forges site to inform you about hiking, fauna, flora and regulations.
